The Dumbo Arts Center (DAC) is a non-profit contemporary arts organisation located in Dumbo, Brooklyn, New York. DAC's mission is to catalyse interaction between visual artists, the local community and the wider public, in order to preserve the neighbourhood of Dumbo as a springboard for new art. DAC presents a year-round programme of new exhibitions in its gallery, commissions site-specific art and provides educational programmes for artists and high school students. By attracting thousands of visitors and media attention to the once abandoned manufacturing area, DAC's role has been pivotal in the establishment of Dumbo, Brooklyn as a recognised neighbourhood and cultural destination.
Kokoro & Moi designed the new graphic identity for the Dumbo Arts Center, with a vision for an identity system that would be more rooted in the surrounding neighbourhood and DAC's role as a supporting structure for cultural life in the Dumbo area. The main element of the identity is the custom-made Dumbo Sans typeface, which has taken its forms from various supporting elements of the two bridges in the area, the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges.
